Chapter 3 - God's Masterpieces

This week we started working on Chapter 3 in our book. The chapter deals with sacramental theology at a 7th grade level. Students are working on a set of vocabulary words as we read through the chapter (you can download it here). We've reviewed the teaching on the two creation stories from Genesis, as well as the mythological basis of the first several chapters of Genesis. We talked about how God intended for the world to be one of peace: peace between people, between humanity and the world, and between humanity and God. We also talked about the way that peace was broken through our first sin - our original sin. We also talked about the effects of original sin: weakness of will, tendency to sin, suffering, and death. Finally, we've touched on the fact that from the first moment of creation God was already envisioning Jesus as the crowning point of creation, and how the Paschal Mystery of Jesus (his incarnation, life, passion, death, resurrection and ascension) have redeemed the whole universe.

Next week we will focus on the definitions for sign and symbol, look at how we celebrate the sacraments, and see how all of this ties in to our celebration of the Sacred Liturgy (the Mass).

Blessings & Peace,
Mr. De La Rosa
